Traditional clones are delicate and need to be cared for immediately after you receive them. This guide walks through bringing them home safely, acclimating them, transplanting them into their new environment, and making sure they get the right nutrients and light.
Receiving Your Clones
- 1Get them home ASAP:
- Avoid leaving your clones in the car — extreme temperatures can kill them.
- Transport them to a stable environment as quickly as possible.
- 2Stable environment requirements:
- Temperature: 76°F–81°F.
- Humidity: 55%–60%.
- 3Light requirements:
- Place clones under a 20–40 watt full-spectrum light (>6000K, 8000K optimal) with 24-hour lighting.
- 4Nutrient timing:
- The trays contain nutrients that will sustain the clones for up to 12 hours.
- 5Dome removal:
- Remove the domes immediately upon arrival. The domes maintained a stable environment during transport, but they are no longer needed.
Caring for Clones Before Transplant
- 1Nutrients while still a clone:
- Athena Pro @ 3.0 EC.
- pH: 5.8.
- 2Environmental conditions:
- Maintain the same temperature (78°F–81°F) and humidity (55%–60%).
- Keep clones under the full-spectrum light with 24-hour exposure.
Potted Clone Care
Once potted, clones need special care for the first week so they acclimate to their new environment.
- 1Nutrient solution:
- For the first week, use a 50% strength Week One Nutrient Solution.
- Water at least once daily, checking the moisture level of the medium.
- 2Lighting requirements:
- Keep the clones under a full-spectrum grow light (24-hour exposure).
- 3Medium information:
- Potted clones are in a 70/30 coco/perlite mix. Adjust care accordingly to maintain optimal moisture and nutrition levels.
Transplanting Your Clones
Once your clones are potted, it's time to transplant them into their permanent home.
- 1Timing:
- Transplant the clones as soon as possible into their future growing medium.
- 2Acclimating light conditions:
- Provide at least 16–18 hours of light per day after transplanting.
- Remember the clones were previously exposed to 24 hours of low-intensity LED lighting. Gradually acclimate them to their new light intensity to avoid stress.
Beneficial Insects & Pest Management

- 1Beneficial insects:
- If you spot a beneficial insect on your clone, don't be alarmed. They are there to protect the plant and are short-lived (7–14 days).
Grow Notes
- 1Pre-transplant targets:
- pH: 6.1.
- EC: 0.6.
- Keep clones under broad-spectrum light not exceeding 150 PAR (µmols/m²/sec).
- 2Post-transplant adjustments:
- After transplanting, adjust the pH and EC to suit the new growing medium for optimal growth conditions.
